Where is the Academy located? The Toronto Orthodox Theological Academy is located on the 2nd floor of the Headquarters of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Toronto (Canada), on 1 Patriarch Bartholomew Way (86 Overlea Blvd.), Toronto, Ontario, M4H 1C6. The main intersection is Overlea and Don Mills.
When is the Chapel open for Prayer services? Matins begins at 8:00 a.m., while Vespers and Small Compline begin at 5:00 p.m. Orthros and Divine Liturgy is celebrated every Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Every Tuesday, Vespers and Small Compline are substituted with the Supplication Service to the Theotokos (starting at 5:00 p.m.). During Great Lent, Great Compline replaces Vespers and Small Compline on Mondays and Thursdays (starting at 7:00), while the Akathist Hymn is chanted on Fridays at 7:00 p.m.
How do I apply to the Academy? You will need to submit the following in your registration:
What degree do I receive at the Academy? After one year of successful studies, students receive a Diploma in Orthodox Theology from l’Universite de Sherbrooke. After three years of successful studies, students will receive a “Ptychion” from the Academy, a “Pitakion” (honorary degree) from the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, and a Bachelor’s in Theology from l’Universite de Sherbrooke.
I’m married… Can I attend the Academy? Of course! Many married students study at the Academy. Please speak with the Dean and Secretary/Treasurer of the Academy for more information as to how we can help you in your studies.
Do I have to be a candidate for ordination in the Orthodox Church to attend the Academy? The Academy is open primarily for those interested to becoming Orthodox Priests; for anyone else interested in studying Orthodox Theology, please talk to the Admissions Department.
