PROTOCOL OF UNDERSTANDING

 

between 

 

The University of Sherbrooke

 

 and

 

 The Toronto Orthodox Theological Academy Inc.

 

 On the subject matter of the

 

 Bachelor’s Degree in Theology

 

October 1999


 
AFFILIATION ACCORD PROTOCOL OF AGREEMENT

 

BETWEEN  

 

THE UNIVERSITY OF SHERBROOKE, Quebec, Canada,

represented by Mr. Pierre Reid, Deanhereafter called “The University”

 

AND

 

THE TORONTO ORTHODOX THEOLOGICAL ACADEMY INC., Toronto, Ontario,

represented by His Eminence Metropolitan Archbishop Sotirios hereafter called “The Academy”

 

 

The University of Sherbrooke recognizes the present Toronto Orthodox Theological Academy Inc. as an Institution affiliated with it, and it grants the rights and privileges that follow.

 

 

Article 1           Students of The Academy are enrolled in the program of the Bachelor of Theology degree of The University.

 

 

Article 2           The study program that is provided by The Academy is recognized by The University as being satisfactory

to the requirements of the Bachelor Program in Theology of The University.

 

 

Article 3           The curriculum taught and exams that are approved by the Administration are legally and factually accepted by The University.

 

 

Article 4           The marks given by The Academy and sanctioned by the Dean of Studies are accepted as they are by The University.


 

IN RETURN, The Academy undertakes to respect the following conditions:

 

 

Article 5           Proceed with the enrollment of each of its students in the Bachelor of Theology program offered by The University, and do this according to the established rules and Regulations of Studies (Reglement des Etudes) of The University.

 

 

Article 6           Transmit to The University at the end of each semester, for each student a transcript containing a list of the

paedagogical activities followed, the number of hours per week for each activity, and the marks obtained in each one of them.

 

 

Article 7           Evaluate every year with representatives of The University, the quality of the curriculum offered by The Academy

 in a joined committee, presided by the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Ethics and Philosophy or his representative.

 

FINAL DISPOSITIONS

 

Article 8           For the purpose of this understanding, the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Philosophy and Ethics is the official representative of The University, and the Director of Studies is the official representative of The Academy.

 

 

Article 9           This agreement is approved for a period of one year, renewable tacitly at the end of the year. The agreement may be unilaterally cancelled or annulled at any time, by either party, with a three-month notice.

 

 

Article 10         This agreement is subject to approval by the competent administrative authorities. This agreement will take effect after approval, with effect from the date of signing.

Management of the Protocol Procedure

 

Registration

 

  1. Each student of the Toronto Orthodox Theological Academy Inc. is admitted to the Bachelor’s Program in Theology of the University of Sherbrooke at the time when he has obtained a Diploma attesting satisfactory completion of the program.

  2. The Registrar’s Office of the University of Sherbrooke must obtain the following information:

    1. First and last name of candidate

    2. Birth date

    3. Citizenship and SIN

    4. Transcript of the Toronto Orthodox Theological Academy Inc.

  3. At the request of the Faculty of Theology, Ethics and Philosophy, the Registrar’s office proceed to recognize the credits.

  4. The Registrar’s office prepares the Diploma and follows the standard procedure for the transmission of the Diploma to the student.

 

Invoicing

 

  1. On the first of May of each year, the Toronto Orthodox Theological Academy Inc. submits to the secretary of the faculty of Theology, Ethics and Philosophy the list of students of the Bachelor’s program and the number of credits completed between the first of June of the previous year and the thirty-first of May of the current year.

  2. In consultation with the office of the Registrar the Secretary of the Faculty determines the number of “equivalent” students, (total number of credits, divided by 30). The office of the Registrar then requests the office of Finance and Supply Services to issue an Invoice.

  3. The Toronto Orthodox Theological Academy Inc. receives an invoice payable to the University of Sherbrooke.

  4. The general administrative fees paid to the University of Sherbrooke for each full time student is $500 (five  hundred dollars).
