Κυριακή Ἑλληνορθόδοξης Νεολαίας

Ἡ Ἱερά μας Μητρόπολη ὅρισε σάν Κυριακή Νεολαίας τήν τελευταία Κυριακή τοῦ Νοεμβρίου, γιατί Προστάτιδα τῆς Νεολαίας εἶναι ἡ  Ἁγία Αἰκατερίνη, τῆς ὁποίας τήν μνήμη γιορτάζομε στίς 25 Νοεμβρίου.

Τό Φθινόπωρο ἔχει προχωρήσει γιά καλά. Ὁ ἀσπρομάλλης γερο-χειμώνας εἶναι πολύ κοντά. Τά Χριστούγεννα πλησιάζουν. Ἡ νηστεία ἔχει ἀρχίσει. Εἶναι ἡ περίοδος τῆς προετοιμασίας τοῦ καθενός γιά τό μοναδικό, τό ἀνεπανάληπτο γεγονός τῆς Γέννησης τοῦ Θεανθρώπου. Ὁ οὐρανός κατεβναίνει καί ἑνώνεται μέ τήν γῆ. Ὁ Θεός σκύβει καί δίδει τό χέρι Του στό πλάσμα Του, τόν ἄνθρωπο. Τό μεσότοιχο τῆς ἔχθρας γκρεμίζεται. Ἡ φιλία μεταξύ Θεοῦ καί ἀνθρώπου ἀποκαθίσταται. Εὐλογημένη περίοδος τοῦ χρόνου. Περίοδος πού ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἀφήνει τά ἐγκώσμια. Σκέφτεται τόν οὐρανό. Σκέφτεται τήν συμφιλίωση. Σκέφτεται τή χαρά τῆς ἀποκατάστασης αὐτῆς τῆς φιλίας μεταξύ Θεοῦ και ἀνθρώπου.

Οἱ φοιτητές σκέφτονται τά διαγωνίσματα και τίς τελευταῖες ἐργασίες. Πολλοί ἄνθρωποι σκέφτονται τούς μή τυχερούς τῆς γῆς. Ὅλοι πρέπει νά σκεφτόμαστε τά ἀγαθά πού μᾶς ἔδωκε ὁ Θεός. Πήραμε καί πρέπει νά δώσομε. Καιρός νά θέσομε σέ ἐφαρμογή αὐτά πού μᾶς εἶπε ὁ ἴδιος ὁ Χριστός. «Μακάριόν ἐστιν μᾶλλον διδόναι ἤ λαμβάνειν». Νά δίνομε μέ τήν ψυχή μας. Μέ τήν καρδιά μας. Χωρίς ὑστεροβουλία. Νά δίνομε μέ χαρά καί μέ προθυμία. «Ἰλαρόν γάρ δότην ἀγαπᾶ ὁ Θεός».

Γιά νά δίνει κάποιος πρέπει νά ἔχει. Ἐμεῖς ὅ,τι ἔχομε δέν εἶναι δικό μας. Εἶναι τοῦ Θεοῦ. Ἐμεῖς εἴμαστε οἱ διαχειριστές τῶν ἀγαθῶν τοῦ Θεοῦ. Κι ὅταν δίνομε στό φτωχό τό δανείζομε στόν Θεό. «Ὁ ἐλεῶν πτωχόν δανείζειν Θεόν». Στήν οὐσία ὅταν δίδομε, ἐπιστρέφομε πίσω στό Θεό μερικά ἀπ’ αὐτά πού μᾶς ἔδωκε. «Τά σά ἐξ τῶν σῶν» ὅπως λέμε στό κεντρικότερο σημεῖο τῆς Θείας μας Λειτουργίας.

Αὐτά δέν εἶναι μόνο γιά τούς μεγάλους. Δέν εἶναι μόνο γιά τούς πλούσιους. Δέν εἶναι μόνο γιά τούς γραμματισμένους. Αὐτά εἶναι γιά ὅλους. Καί ἐπειδή εἴμαστε στήν Κυριακή τῆς Νεολαίας πρέπει νά ὑπογραμμίσομε, ὅτι ὅλα αὐτά εἶναι καί γιά τήν Νεολαία.

Ἡ ἐποχή μας εἶναι δύσκολη γιά τήν Νεολαία. Ὑπάρχει σύγχυση ἰδεῶν. Οἱ πνευματικές ἀξίες δέν ὑπολογίζονται. Ἡ πίστη στό Θεό πολεμεῖται. Πολεμεῖται ἀκόμη καί ὁ ἴδιος ὁ Θεός. Ἡ Νεολαία προβληματίζεται. Καί δέν ξέρει πού νά στρέψει τήν προσοχή της καί τά βλέμματά  της. Τί νά δεχθεῖ καί τί νά ἀπορρίψει. Ποιά εἶναι ἡ ἀλήθεια καί ποιό τό ψεῦδος. Ποιό εἶναι τό καλό καί ποιό εἶναι τό κακό.

Ὅλοι μας κάποτε βρεθήκαμε στό ἴδιο σταυροδρόμι τῆς ζωῆς καί ἔπρεπε νά διαλέξομε. Νά διαλέξομε τήν πίστη ἤ τήν ἀπιστία. Τήν ἀρετή ἤ τήν κακία. Τό ἠθικό ἤ τό ἀνήθικο. Καί σ’ αὐτό τό σταυροδρόμι τῆς ἐκλογῆς δέν βρεθήκαμε μόνο μιά φορά. Βρισκόμαστε πολλές φορές καί πρέπει πάντα νά κάνομε τήν σωστή ἐκλογή.

Ὑπενθυμίζω σέ ὅλους, ὅτι «τά νειάτα δέν εἶναι φτιαγμένα γιά τίς ἀπολαύσεις, ἀλλά γιά τόν ἡρωϊσμό». Καλῶ ὅλους τούς νέους καί τίς νέες νά διαλέξουν τόν ἡρωϊσμό. Νά ἐντάξουν τούς ἑαυτούς τους στίς τάξεις τῶν πιστῶν. Στίς τάξεις τῶν εἰρηνοποιῶν καί τῶν ἀγαθοποιῶν. Νά γίνουν μέλη τῆς Νεολαίας τῆς Κοινότητάς τους. Νά βοηθοῦν στά Κατηχητικά καί σέ ὅλα τά ἄλλα ἔργα τῆς ἐκκλησίας τους. Ἡ Ἑλληνοκαναδική Ὀρθόδοξη Νεολαία νά γίνει κίνημα πού νά ἐπιφέρει πραγματική ἀλλαγή. Πραγματική ἀλλαγή στίς ψυχές καί στό εἶναι κάθε νέου καί κάθε νέας. Ὁ καθένας νά γίνει φωτεινό παράδειγμα γιά τούς γύρω του. Ἡ Νεολαία ριζωμένη στήν Ὀρθόδοξη πίστη καί στά Ἑλληνοχριστιανικά ἰδεώδη νά προχωρεῖ μπροστά. Νά συντρίβει τίς ἀλυσίδες τῆς ἀμφιβολίας, τῆς ἀπιστίας καί τῆς ἐκκοσμίκευσης. Νά βρίσκει λύτρωση χαρά καί ἀγαλλίαση στό Βασίλειο τοῦ Χριστοῦ. Νά λάμπει ἡ ψυχή της σάν τόν ἥλιο. Νά νιώθει ἀνοιχτούς τούς ὁρίζοντες καί ἀνοιχτό τόν οὐρανό. Νέοι καί νέες παραδειγματιστεῖτε ἀπό τό ἀπαράμιλλο παράδειγμα τῆς Προστάτιδάς σας Ἁγίας Αἰκατερίνης. Ἐκείνη προσέφερε τόν ἑαυτό της θυσία γιά τόν Χριστό. Σεῖς προσφέρετε ἀπό τά ἀγαθά πού σᾶς ἔδωκε ὁ Θεός, ὑλικά καί πνευματικά.

Στήν περίοδο τῆς νηστείας ὅλοι μας νά κάνομε ἅλματα πνευματικά. Νά νιώσουμε περισσότερο τόν ἐρχομό τοῦ Χριστοῦ. Νά ζήσουμε περισσότερο ἑνωμένοι μαζί Του. Καλά Χριστούγεννα καί ὁ Θεός νά εὐλογεῖ καί ν’ ἁγιάζει ὅλους σας καί νά σᾶς χαρίζει κάθε ἀγαθό.

Sunday of Greek Orthodox Youth

Our Holy Metropolis has selected the last Sunday of November, since the Patron Saint of our Youth is St. Katherine, whose memory is celebrated on November 25.

Autumn has progressed, with “Old Man Winter” being very close to us. Christmas is fast approaching. The Advent Fast has begun. It is the period of preparation for the only, unrepeatable event of the Birth of the God-Man. The Heavens descend and is united with the earth. God comes down and extends His hand to His creation, humankind. The partition of hatred is destroyed. Friendship between God and humankind is renewed. A truly blessed time of the year. A time where humanity does not pay attention to the earthly, but rather the things of heaven. Where he thinks of reconciliation. Where he thinks of the recapitulation of this friendship between God and man.

Students think of the exams and final assignments. Many people think of the ill-fated of the earth. We must all think of the blessings which God has given us. We have received, and we must given. It is time to put into practice that which Christ Himself told us, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” To give with all our soul. With all our heart. Without reluctance. We must give with joy and with willingness. For, “God loves a cheerful giver.”

For someone to give, they must have. Whatever we have is not our own. It belongs to God. We are merely the managers of the blessings of God. And when we give to the poor, we lend to God. “The one who shows mercy on the poor, lends to God.” In essence, when we give, we merely give back to God what He gave us. “We offer to You from Your own”, as we say at the central point of our Divine Liturgy.

This is not only for those older in age. This admonition is not only for the rich. It is not only for those who are educated. It is for everyone. And because we are celebrating Youth Sunday, we must also point out that all these things are for our Youth, as well.

Our times are difficult ones for our Youth. It is a time that confusing ideas are put forward to them. The spiritual principles are not valued. People wage war against faith in God. Youth are confused. And they do not know where to turn their attention to. What to accept, and what to dismiss. What is truth, and what is falsehood. What is good and what is bad.

All of us, at one time or another, found ourselves at this crossroad in our lives and we had to choose. To either choose faith or unbelief. Virtue or evil. The ethical or the unethical. And we found ourselves at this crossroads more than once. We find ourselves there many times and we must make the right choice.

I remind everyone that, “youth is not made up of enjoyment, but is to show heroism.” I call upon all our youth to choose heroism. To include themselves in the class of the faithful. In the class of the peacemakers and those who are virtuous. To become members of the Youth Groups of their Communities. To help in the Sunday Schools and in all the other efforts of their Churches. May the Greek-Canadian Orthodox Youth truly become a movement that will create true change. True change in the souls and in the very being of every young man and woman. May every one of us become a bright example for all those around them. Youth that are rooted in their Orthodox faith and in the Hellenic Christian values will proceed forward. To shatter the chains of doubt, of unbelief and of secularization. To find salvation in the joy and gladness in the Kingdom of Christ. For their soul to shine like the sun. To feel that their horizons and the heavens are open to them. Young men and women, may your example be the unspeakable example of your Patron Saint, St. Katherine. She offered herself as a sacrifice for Christ. May you all offer your blessings that God has given you, both material and spiritual.

During this period of Advent, may we all make great spiritual strives. May we feel with more magnitude the coming of Christ. May we all live more united with Him. Merry Christmas, and may God bless and sanctify you all and may He grant you every blessing.
