Building a Friendship With Your Little Angel

A very special part of the Little Angels Program is the opportunity to communicate with your sponsor child and his/her family. It's very exciting to form a friendship with someone across the globe, and you will likely be the first North American your Little Angel has had any contact with.

Writing to Your Little Angel

If you choose to correspond with your Little Angel just mail your letter/postcard, including your name, Little Angel's name, and reference number, to:

Letter-writing Tips

•  Send photographs -- children love receiving pictures!

• Describe your home and neighborhood.

• Describe Canada's climate and people -- remember, these children have  never seen snow in real life!

• Ask some questions about the Philippines and the Filipino culture.

• Ask questions about your Little Angel's family and tell him/her about your own.

• To maintain confidentiality, never include your home address.

• Please be sensitive to cultural and religious differences.

• Please write clearly and neatly in order to help the translator understand your letter.

• Small gifts are permitted, but please do not send money, food, liquid, seeds, pressurized items, or anything breakable. (See our Gift Policy for details.)

You can expect to receive a letter or drawing from your Little Angel within two to five months of sponsorship. Your patience is appreciated when waiting for replies. Your letter has to travel through Customs to your Little Angel's country, be translated, then delivered to your Little Angel by a community volunteer.

While the exchange of letters may be slow and sometimes a little awkward, over time it can become a rich and rewarding correspondence. Please keep your letters coming!

Gift Policy

Some sponsors have voiced a desire to send a small gift to their Little Angel. You are in no way obligated to do so - your kind and generous donation is already a big help. For those that wish to send a gift, our policy is as follows:  

• Gifts should be small and inexpensive (value of less than $15).

• All gifts should be flat, weigh less than 150 grams (just over five ounces), and fit in a 9 x 12 envelope.

• Please limit yourself to two gifts per year.

• Please package all gifts carefully so that they do not break on their journey.

• Please do not send paper money, coins, valid stamps, seeds, food or sharp, expensive or breakable items (including sample shampoos, creams, jewelry, pocket knives, etc.)

Gift Ideas

Sending a Gift  

Remove the gift from its packaging and identify the item with your Little Angel's reference number. Place the gift in a clear plastic bag. Attach the bag to your letter, card or postcard (which should also have your reference number). Then put everything into an envelope and mail it to:
