Clergy Association Celebrates their Patron Saint, St. Photios the Great

 

On February 6th, Orthodox Christians celebrate the memory of St. Photios the Great, Patriarch of Constantinople and Confessor of the Faith. His memory is celebrated with special solemnity in Canada, as he is the Patron Saint of the Clergy Syndesmos.

 

In Toronto, His Eminence Metropolitan Archbishop Sotirios presided at the Vespers service honouring St. Photios on February 5th at 6:00 p.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Toronto. After Vespers, the Clergy Syndesmos held a Dinner honouring the Clergy, along with awarding the Metropolitan's Scholarships for various students of our Metropolis. The students who received the Scholarships are:

Gina Demczuk (Koimisis Church, Hamilton)

Francine A. Mantas (St. Nicholas Church, Toronto)

Eleftheria Morfidis (Evangelismos Church, Oshawa)

Eleni Theodoropoulos (St. Katherine Church, St. Catharines)

Dimitrios I. Tsakalakis (St. Demetrios Church, Calgary)

4th Annual Youth Leaders Meeting - March 21st, 2009

 

It's that time of year again! Save the date, and book your ticket to Toronto to attend the 4th Annual Youth Leaders Meeting!

 

This year's event will be held on Friday March 21st and Saturday March 22nd in Toronto, Ontario.

 

The Youth Department has excellent speakers lined up, and a schedule that will allow for insightful discussions, great casual conversations, and a lot of fun for all participants.

Feast of the Three Hierarchs and the "Greek Letters"

Encyclical of His Eminence Metropolitan Archbishop Sotirios

 

On January 30th, Greek Orthodox Christians celebrate the memory of the Three Hierarchs (Sts. Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom). To celebrate this auspicious feast, His Eminence Metropolitan Sotirios has written an encyclical and Churches across the Metropolis will be celebrating with special events honouring Greek School students and teachers across Canada.

Ευλογημένο το Νέο Έτος! Happy New Year!

 

On the occasion of the New Year, and the feasts of the Circumcision of our Lord and St. Basil the Great, the Churches of our Metropolis celebrated the Divine Liturgy and held the New Year Doxology.
